Why I’m Proud of My First Novel

Middle South was truly a labor of love. The novel took me years to write because I saw it as a hobby that I could pick up every now and again while I gave birth to and raised three small children. Finishing it was one of the proudest moments in my life.
I never really entertained the idea of publishing it until my youngest child started school. The thought of putting myself and my work out there to be judged was terrifying. I also thought an unpublished writer had zero hope. I eventually realized that never trying would be something I’d regret. Most importantly, I wanted to show my children that I would not cower in the face of scrutiny. Getting my first copy of Middle South from the publisher was another amazing moment for me. It was surreal. I felt like I had arrived!
Nothing makes me happier than when someone who’s read my book tells me they laughed. Middle South is meant to be a light, funny read about a different culture. Hopefully, my readers come away with a little more insight on the Middle East, Islam, and Lebanese-Americans. But mostly, I really hope they laugh out loud.
