The Vaelinel Trilogy continues with this absorbing sequel to Silevethiel! Alone and hunted by the Drulaack, Irewen takes advantage of her only option for survival. Pushing her concerns aside, she lets the dead keep her.
But her refuge doesn’t last long. Driven out of their hosts by Laegon, a handful Drulaack have returned to the Spirit World. No longer having the protection of the dead, Irewen is forced to return to Vaelinel.
Finally reunited with her companions, the burdens placed on them are taking their toll. Thoughts of suicide and mistrust plague the company. Slowly unravelling, they must conquer their personal battles before standing against the evil threatening the land.
For the Corrupter thirsts for revenge. And he’ll stop at nothing to satisfy his hunger.
Enjoy an Excerpt:

Irewen’s eyes darted open. The intense sense of dread pushed away any lingering dreariness.

They were coming.

She sprang to her feet. “Get up!” she shouted. “They’re here!” Reaching for her sword, her hand brushed only air where the hilt should have been. She stopped and looked around in confusion, trying to remember when and where she’d seen it last.

Lost in thought, she started at the sound of a familiar metallic clink. She looked up, nodding gratefully when Laegon handed her her sword. “We encountered Melldren on our rush to your aid and thought you could perhaps put this to better use than him.”

Taking hold of the hilt, Irewen slowly pulled it from the black leather sheath. She remembered the day she’d first been given the sword. It had felt extremely awkward in her hands. So foreign. She’d spent her entire life being sheltered from everything, especially war. Yet, there she was being handed a weapon specifically crafted for her. And not just for ceremonial purposes. For battle.

But now, when she held the weapon, she felt whole. This was what she was meant to be. Not a princess pampered and shielded from everything outside the palace walls. But someone who faced the atrocities of the world and met them head on. Someone who didn’t hide in the shadows ignoring everything happening around them. Someone who took control as a leader.

A warrior.

Irewen sensed the Drulaack draw closer. A rush of adrenaline coursed through her body and she could almost feel the sword tingle in anticipation. But it wasn’t just mere excitement for battle. Something else emanated from the blade, mixing with the restlessness in a deeply feral way.

Anger.

And then, she realized the same sensation was flowing through her body. It wasn’t the sword that was angry. It was the magic.

Irewen looked at her companions. “Your weapons,” she said, her voice low.

“Yes,” Laegon answered warily. “I feel it.”

“What is it?” Perendin asked.

Irewen met his gaze. “Our magic.”
