Black Arts, Tarts & Gypsy Carts: A Cozy Witch Mystery (Spells & Caramels) by Erin Johnson

Black Arts, Tarts & Gypsy Carts: A Cozy Witch Mystery (Spells & Caramels) Cozy Mystery 2nd in Series Self Published (October 29, 2017) Paperback: 300 pages ISBN-13: 978-1976537110 E-Book - ASIN: B076GW21DK
With the Summer Sea Carnival visiting the enchanted island of Bijou Mer, Imogen jumps at the chance to help run the royal bakery booth. It’ll get her out of the palace and allow her to continue avoiding her feelings for a certain engaged prince. Imogen’s plans to lay low are shattered when the world-famous necromancer, Madame Zerna, is found dead, sawed in half on the dark magician’s table and Imogen’s friend Rhonda is caught red-handed. With incriminating evidence piling up against Rhonda, Zerna’s rival, Imogen promises to help clear her name by finding the real murderer. But between running the booth, encouraging Maple as she struggles to lead as head baker, and taking spell lessons from the friendly strong man, Imogen’s got her hands full. And it’s no easier getting information from the evasive dark magician or Madame Zerna’s secretive assistant. Even Rhonda’s hiding something. With the Night of the Dead fast approaching, and Rhonda headed for a maximum security witch prison, Imogen races to unearth the real killer in time to save her friend. But in a mysterious carnival where nothing’s as it seems, will Imogen have the magical powers to keep from being on the chopping block herself?

                       My Review: *****

Wow I loved this book. The cover and blurb id what drawn me to wsnt to read this story in the begining. After meeting the characters and reading the book it was like I was in another world. I loved it.  Magic and mystery all in one with some laughable moments. I can't wait to read what is going to happen next.

1.) What inspired you to write Black Tarts and Gypsy Carts?
I wanted it to be a fun, spooky read since it published right before Halloween. I like to write about settings I'd love to visit myself, so a dark, magical carnival on a pier sounded like a great time. Every October my family visits the Balboa Park haunted house in San Diego, so I borrowed a bit from that.

2.) Which character is your favorite?
That's hard! I have a soft spot for all of them, even the "bad guys". But I love Iggy's snark and his surprising sweetness at times.

3.) Do you have a special place you like to go to while writing?
I usually write in my home office. It's got French doors I close behind me and my dogs line up to watch me through the glass and remind me to take breaks.

4.) Did you get any writers block while writing this?
Not too bad, actually. I had some bouts while writing the third book, though. It usually happens if I haven't given myself enough time to dream about it and play it all out in my head, before I start writing.

5.) Do you have anything new in the works and if so can you tell us about it?
I'm currently working on the fourth book. It's winter holiday themed and I'm hoping it'll have some fun reveals and twists that readers didn't see coming. We'll learn more about the history of the kingdoms and Imogen's past. I've been watching a lot of Great British Baking Show and Hallmark made for TV movies for inspiration. I live in Phoenix so I have to imagine what snow's like! :)
