Katya leads a normal life any teenager would be envious of – popular, pretty and dating the high school elite. Not she enjoys the spotlight, mind you. She wants everyone to believe she is normal.

But when Katya sees the real reason behind the earthquakes plaguing everyone in Boston, the truth rattles and shatters the perfect normal illusion Katya created for herself. An ability to see unearthly creatures and manipulate waves of life energy labels her as anything but normal. And it’s an ability that attracts unwanted and dangerous attention.

She reluctantly finds herself in the company of Gregor, a handsome member of an international spirit military team called the Kyrios. Her simple decision to help thrusts Katya in a world of the undead spirits, betrayal and a perpetual battle between undead monsters and the wardens that keep them in their place.

Katya must decide whether she values the simple and easy life she created for herself over the complex and difficult world now asking her to stand and fight.

Interview:

What genre do you write and why?
  • Fantasy is the greatest genre in my opinion because there are no limits – the possibilities are endless and that is just exciting to me.

Do you ever get writer’s block? What helps you overcome it?
  • Absolutely. I normally have to put the novel away and either start up a new project or read some other novels so that I can inspired. But taking a break is crucial. It’s like a relationship – if you reach a rut, you gotta break the cycle.

Your book is set in Boston. Have you ever been there?
  • I’m from there! There are so few fantasy books set up in Boston, I thought I would shout out the city where I was born and went to school.

What advice would you give budding writers?
  • Never. Give . Up. Life will get in the way. Work that pays the bills will get in the way. Relationships and marriage will get in the way. Children if you have them will get in the way. BUT, you make time for what is important to you. Make time for your writing and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Learn from them and adapt. But never give up.

Favorite travel spot?
  • It’s always hard to pick because I love to travel! Because I spent 6 months in Tokyo for my second year of law school and because I love Japanese culture, I will say Japan. Cuz it’s just awesome.

If there is one thing you want readers to remember about you, what would it be?

  • I am a dreamer like you. I daydream like you. I picture myself in crazy situations or imagine myself with powers like you. I wrote this book because it would be something that I would want to read. And I hope you enjoy it!
