Lady Jane Moore has a secret. A secret that must be kept buried. If anyone discovered the truth, her life at Stranje House would crumble. And with Napoleon Bonaparte threatening to invade England, everyone at Stranje House is already in mortal danger.
There’s a traitor in the house. Someone is sneaking information to Napoleon’s spies, Lady Daneska and Ghost. Jane is determined to find out who it is before suspicions rip apart the bonds of friendship at Stranje House. Her desperate hunt for the traitor ensnares a brash young American inventor, Alexander Sinclair, Robert Fulton’s nephew, into an ambush that puts his life in danger. Sinclair is the most maddening young man in all of Christendom, a sharp-tongued rascal with boorish manners, but Lady Jane cannot bear the thought of the golden-haired genius being harmed.
Is Jane enough of a mastermind to save Alexander, her friends at Stranje House, and possibly England itself?
Fans of Gail Carriger, Patricia Wrede, and Caroline Stevermer will love this Regency-era alternate history filled with spunky heroines, handsome young lords, and dastardly villains.
"Baldwin has a winning series here: her characters are intriguing and fully rendered."
- Stacey Comfort, Booklist
"Refuge for Masterminds moves at a fast pace from the first page and doesn’t stop. Although it is written with a young adult audience in mind, it is a fun and enjoyable novel and will also appeal to adult readers."

Fun Fact:

#FUN FACT 2
Do you dream of flying?
I do.
Not a week goes by, but what I don’t have a glorious dream of soaring above the rooftops or over the countryside.
As a kid, I was always trying to build some sort of flying contraption. Do you remember wind-up airplanes made out of balsa wood?
Yeah, well, when I was nine years old I tried to build a flyable version of that. I used a bicycle inner tube and some scrap lumber. Then I climbed up into our tree house, hoisted it up with me, and talked my little brother into giving it a go.
It didn’t fly.
Nope.
Big ‘ole nosedive.
Fortunately, my brave little test-pilot brother didn’t break any bones in the fall.
This failure did not dissuade me from my desire to get wings. In college, I tried hang-gliding. This was back when hang-gliders were big awkward clunky things. After a dozen or so tumbles down Widow-Maker hill, I decided to rethink that hobby.
Since then I’ve flown in prop planes, helicopters, and just about every other flying machine, but nothing beats my dreams of spreading my arms, getting a running start and soaring into the sky.
My obsession with flying spills over into my writing. I can’t help it. Almost every one of my heroines has tried flying in one way or another. Poor Lady Jane, heroine of REFUGE FOR MASTERMINDS, is afraid of heights. But in EXILE FOR DREAMERS she bravely flew tandem with Georgie on a makeshift pair of DaVinci’s wings. Granted they encountered some serious trouble, but hey, at least Jane flew.
